Our Manchaca TX Dentist Breaks Down Dental Cleanings and Their Importance
Routine dental cleanings are strongly recommended twice per year for patients of all ages by not only our Manchaca TX dentist, but the American Dental Association. Professional cleanings are relatively quick and virtually painless. During your cleaning, one of our highly skilled hygienists will remove mineralized plaque that may develop even with careful brushing and flossing, especially in those hard-to-reach areas of the mouth.
How it’s done
Dental cleanings can last anywhere between 30 minutes to an hour. Our well-trained hygienist will conduct the cleaning while Dr. Dimple Sharma will step in at the end for a brief dental exam. There are two important steps to a proper dental cleaning. The first of which is known as scaling the teeth, which involves the removal of plaque and tartar from the tooth’s surface. This can either be completed by hand or with an electric scaler, depending on the hygienist’s preference. Our hygienist will also be sure to clean the pockets of the gums in order to remove any hidden plaque buildup.
The final step is polishing the teeth with a special dental polisher. This allows the hygienist to remove any final plaque and buff the teeth. Dental polishers tend to have several different head sizes in order to get those hard-to-reach places.
